ASSISTANT EDITOR Job Descriptions

Job Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
At least two years full-time work experience as an Assistant Editor in a reputable publishing firm, a university press or media house;
Bachelor’s degree in Communications (with specialization in Print Media or Publishing) from a recognized University of at least an Upper Second Class;
Demonstrated experience of working with authors on manuscript evaluation;
Excellent proof reading and copy editing skills
Experience in writing for and editing newsletters, speeches, annual reports, magazines, press releases and promotional materials (e.g. brochures, banners, supplements);
Strong aptitude for desk and library research

Job Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities
Edit University publications (books, modules, journals, conference proceedings, reports, newsletter, etc) ensuring that they meet set standards in terms of content and presentation while ensuring timely completion of works;
Handle correspondence between Publications Department and other offices (internal and external);
Manage subscriptions to the University journal, African Christian Studies, coordinate journal shipments, and maintain effective communication with subscribers;
Manage the journals exchange programme in coordination with Acquisitions Librarian;
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
Perform other duties as delegated by University Editor and approved by Director, Publications;
Take and maintain minutes of departmental meetings and other meetings where the Department is represented;
